WRITING ON HIS BIRTHDAY: TULIPS REMIND HIM OF YOUTH AND SHAKESPEARE LONGFELLOW, HENRY W. Two Autograph Letters Signed, to "Dear Mrs. Rogers." The first, inviting her and Mr. Rogers to dinner and adding that the evening would include an informal concert by Signor Vannini and Mr. Stanfield. The second, thanking for sending a bouquet of tulips for his birthday and quoting a couplet from Twelfth Night. Each 1 1/2 pages, 8vo, with integral blank; horizontal fold. 27 February 1881: "When I came down this morning I found the beautiful tulips blooming on the breakfast table to usher in my birthday.
"And very beautiful they are, reminding me of tulip gardens of Holland; so that I had at once a reminder of youth and age.
