LONGSTREET, JAMES. Two Autograph Letters Signed, to Colonel [William Miller] Owen, discussing personal and Civil War veterans' matters. The first, acknowledging receipt of a telegram, complaining about apparently not receiving an invitation from the Washington Artillery, even though "the postmaster at Milledgeville knows of my address as do most of the Post Masters of the U.S. . . ." With an Autograph Postscript Signed, "JL," noting that "[a] second invitation has just reached me direct from Richmond, so the way now seems clear for our trip." The second, stating "I am just returned from my extended visit to St. Louis . . . and find myself improved by the Richmond-St. Louis trip. So much so that I hope soon to resume work writing. . . ," and sending regards to the Washington Artillery. Each 2 pages, 8vo, lined paper, written on the recto and verso of a single sheet.
