22 3/4x16 inches, 57 3/4x40 1/2 cm.
Condition A-: time-staining and minor creases at edges; light foxing in bottom margin. Paper.
"Lonie Bee was born in Santa Rosa, California, and remained there, one of the few major illustrators based on the West Coast . . . he appeared on the national scene with his spirited illustrations for the magazines Collier's, American, Cosmopolitan, Woman's Home Companion, Woman's Day, Good Housekeeping and The Saturday Evening Post; among these, he painted numerous covers" (The Illustrator in America, p. 261). In the mid 1930s he was also a member of the Artist's Guild of San Francisco along with Maynard Dixon and Maurice Logan. We believe this poster, with its atmospheric depiction of the observation car amidst a verdant twilight, is the only image he designed for Southern Pacific. rare.
