Louis Douzette was born in Triebsees, Germany. He studied in Berlin under painter Herman Eschke. From 1864 to 1865, he traveled to the Baltics and to Sweden, and became known for his moonlit coastal scenes like the present lot.
The Trave River flows from the village of Gießelrade in Ostholstein, Germany into the Baltic sea.
