Additional Details

Map shows the town of Idaho Springs and the surrounding mining claims as they existed in 1881 and contains 11 charming large uncolored vignettes, mostly of panoramic views of the area. Two of the largest views on the map are panoramas of the town of Idaho Springs in 1866 and in 1881, permitting the viewer to observe the town's development. Two notes on the map inform the viewer that Idaho Springs is "surrounded by rich Gold & Silver Mines and celebrated Hot and Cold Mineral Springs", and also that the town is "on Colorado Central R. R. 35 miles west of Denver. A beautiful Summer Resort. Altitude 7,500 ft." While there is no copyright date on the map one presumes that the mapmaker wanted the viewer to compare Idaho Springs of the past with that of the present (1881). The draughtsmen for the map were Rollandet and Van Diest of Denver; the lithographer was Thomas Hunter of Philadelphia. An excellent copy of a rare map. Not in Rumsey. Not in Phillips.
