Lowell Nesbitt is perhaps best known for his large realist paintings of flowers, though his subjects varied widely over his career, including shoes, bridges, building facades, and male nudes such as the drawings included in this auction.Nesbit was born in Baltimore, MD and studied art at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University, Philadelphia, and at the Royal College of Art, London. His works are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, NY, the National Gallery of Art, Washington DC, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. In 1964 Nesbitt had his first museum show at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington DC.
