Additional Details

Fielding Lucas Jr., a Baltimore mapmaker, produced a number of atlases between 1814 and the mid-1820s. However, very few separate non-atlas maps were issued by him. Unlike Augustus Mitchell's state pocket maps, which were updated virtually annually and issued with different dates to reflect those modifications, this particular Lucas map was issued only in 1836. Modelski lists this map as the first and earliest regional railroad map of the Eastern United States. Rumsey 2230. Modelski 68.
