LUCIAN BERNHARD (1883-1972) WOHNUNGSREINIGUNG MIT SAUGLUFT. Circa 1907. 12 1/2x18 1/2 inches. Condition B+: restoration in margins and image. Largely self-taught, Bernhard's career began in 1905 after winning a competition for Priester Matches, which was later followed by a contract with the printer Hollerbaum & Schmidt. We are extremely proud to offer here five of his very early works. This small poster for an apartment vacuum-cleaning company may be the only example to have survived. It is not referenced in either Das Fruhe Plakat<> or in the 1999 Bernhard catalogue. We can attempt to date the poster based on the cartoonish little character which is similar to the one Bernhard drew for the Lustige Blatter<> in 1907.
