LUCIANO ACHILLE MAUZAN (1883-1952) FIERA CAMPIONARIA DI NAPOLI. 1922.
39x 27 1/8 inches, 99x69 cm. Pietro Verri, Milan.
Condition B+: vertical and horizontal folds; abrasions in image. Framed.
Giuseppe Magagnoli was the middleman in the exchange of poster commissions between France and Italy. He was a talented salesman, and Mauzan and Sepo (see lots 89 and 90) both signed contracts with him in 1921. Mauzan designed posters for the Italian market through 1923, and in 1926, he moved to Argentina. Here, for a Commercial Fair in Naples, he takes a page out of Cappiello's book and creates a striking, almost comical image. He shows Mercury, the God of Commerce and a regular figure in Fair posters, emerging from the mouth of a smiling sun. Mauzan p. 97.
