LUCIEN MÉTIVET (1863-1932)

MARTIGNY / VOSGES. 1909.

41½x29½ inches, 105½x75 cm. Minot, Paris.
Condition B+: replaced loss in upper left corner and in left image; repaired tears and creases in margins and image; replaced punch holes in left margin; pin holes in corners.

Although he studied painting in the Montmartre studio of Fernand Cormon (along with Toulouse-Lautrec), Lucien Métivet became a prolific illustrator, working for the best satirical magazines in Paris, like Le Rire and L'Assiette au Beurre. He was a member of the Montmartre circle of artists, with whom he did a lot of work decorating cabarets.
