Graner (1863-1929) was born in Barcelona, where he began his studies as an academic painter. Graner moved on to study in France, where he exhibited at the Paris Salon, and to America, where he spent a number of years after 1910 splitting his time between New York and New Orleans and traveling to California and South America. Graner was adept at various styles of painting, becoming known for portraits, genre painting and landscapes such as the current work. His work is held in American public collections including The Historic New Orleans Collection.
