The current lot is from the whimsical Ghosties series, which Feininger (1871-1956) began in the mid-1940s and continued until his death. The hallmark of the series is the delicately ink-drawn cubist forms and the ethereal watercoloring, creating spectral cartoons, an aesthetic which evinces his experience as an illustrator.
