First edition, large quarto, half-title present, title page printed in red and black with engraved vignette, engraved vignettes and initials; illustrated with folding engraved map, very nicely bound in full contemporary Italian parchment over boards, with red sponged edge decoration, spine with gilt-lettered red morocco label, very nicely preserved with only a bit of occasional spotting to contents, 9 1/4 x 6 3/4 in.
In this important work, Lancisi drew for the first time what is now considered to be the obvious connection between mosquito-infested fresh waterways and the prevalence and spread of malaria. In it, the physician recommends draining stagnant stretches of water for public health.
