Lichtenberger, Johannes (d. 1503)
Pronosticatio.

Cologne: Quentell, 1528.

Small octavo or 16 mo, illustrated with charming woodcut vignettes by Anton Woensam von Worms, thirty-eight woodcuts (eight printed more than once) for a total of forty-six illustrations; bound in 17th century full speckled calf with marbled endleaves, neatly rebacked, ex libris Hanns-Theo Schimtz-Otto with two bookplates; 5 1/2 x 3 1/2 in.

Lichtenberg was inspired to write prophecies after seeing astronomical curiosities, including Jupiter with Saturn in Scorpio in November of 1484, and a solar eclipse the following year. His prognostications are vague, general, and low-risk, but still caused him to run afoul of the Inquisition. His work was overwhelmingly popular from its first edition in 1488. Eleven incunabula editions were published, followed by at least sixty-five editions in the 16th century.
