First edition. A reply to William Lowndes's A Report Containing an Essay for the Amendment of the Silver Coins. Locke favored a direct relationship between the face value of currency and the value of its metal content, whereas Lowndes asserted that a central bank should be able to set the currency's value at will, based on the economic needs of the country.
