Lunar Rover High Gain Antenna. An actual flight qualified antenna assembly that would transmit and receive "S-Band" signals for the Rover's Lunar Communications Relay Unit. This bandwidth included television signals from the Rover's color TV camera and movement/control commands sent from Houston's Mission Control. The assembly was mounted at the front end of the Lunar Rover and consists of a 32-inch pole which can expand to a length of 42 inches. The 34-inch diameter mesh antenna can collapse to a size of 20x7 inches and is mounted on a swivel base. An optical sight is mounted under the mesh antenna to assist pointing. The mesh has seven small 1/4-inch damage holes. The swivel base is missing the 18-inch Astronaut's pointing handle and is missing the original locking bolt. The signal cord is approximately six feet long. (ECR) RCA for NASA, nd
