LÉON BÉNIGNI (1892-1948)

BRIDES LES BAINS. Circa 1929.

39½x27½ inches, 100¼x69¾ cm. D'Editions D'Art, Paris.
Condition A-: slight water staining at bottom left edge; minor creases at edges; linen trimmed to poster; minor creases and abrasions above text.

Promoting a spa for "elegant women," this poster epitomizes several different aspects of Art Deco design, not only showing off elegant fashions, but architecture, automobiles and landscapes as well. This is a variant of the more commonly seen poster - the hair styles and hats differ, as well as the coloring of the woman's red coat and belt. The subtitle of the other version says "La Station de la Femme Élégante." The shift in styling suggests the posters were printed in different years, however this version, unlike the other, is not dated under the artist's signature.
