A previously unrecorded poster which is a fine example of Hermann-Paul's realistic, illustrator's style. The poster advertises one of the cheap, popular, serialized novels that were sold every week, chapter by chapter. This installment obviously has to do with a legal argument, as we see a terrified woman, the president of the court, and a guard. Throughout his career Hermann-Paul worked for a number of magazines: ranging from leftist reviews like Le Canard Sauvage<> (a pro Dreyfus periodical which he co-founded), L'Escarmouche<> and La Feuille de Zo D'Axa<> to the more classic, Assiette au Beurre<>, Le Rire<> and Le Courrier Francais<>. This poster presents a well drawn scene in a style similar to Theofile-Alexandre Steinlen, Lucien Metivet and Paul Balluriau, other well-known illustrators and posterists of the era.
