MAN RAY (1890-1976) SALON COMPARAISONS. 1968.
21 1/4x14 inches, 54x38 cm. Deprest, Paris.
Condition B+: repaired tears and creases at edges.
A photographer, Surrealist, Dadaist, painter, filmmaker and more, Man Ray was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. The Salon Comparaisons was founded in 1954 and exists to the present day. From its conception, its purpose has remained the same: A focus on comparisons, such as those between abstract and figurative art, between French and foreign art, etc. Many prominent artists participated in the Salon's exhibitions over the years; Bernard Buffet, Christo, Antoni Clave, Salvador Dali, Yves Klein, Rene Magritte, Nikki Saint Phalle and Picasso, to name but a few. Man Ray's joyful little drawing seems to be the artist revisiting the object from his famous 1926 photograph, Kiki with African mask.
