We have no biographical information on Manfred Reiss, although one can guess from his name that he emigrated from Germany. What is certain, however, is that in the late forties and early fifties, he was one of the most prolific British poster designers. In the International Poster Annuals (a selection of the best in international poster designs) from this period many of his creations were reproduced. His major client was the Post Office Savings Bank. Reiss' posters are always cleanly designed and easy to understand. The two posters offered here are composed of a simple drawing with photomontage or simple photographed elements cleverly arranged. The Get Skilled Aid<> poster, with it's sophisticated background, is a striking example of Reiss' ability as a top, skilled graphic designer.
