MARC F. SEVERIN (1906-?) OXFORD BLAG'S.
25x19 inches. Hoste-S.A.
Condition B: repaired tears and restoration through margins and image; horizontal folds.
A Belgian who began his career as an illustrator, Severin moved to London after first World war where he became art director at the A. R. Casson advertising agency. During this time he also did free-lance work as a poster designer for Shell and the London Underground. He went back to Belgium after the war, teaching and working for official commissions like stamps. This image - done in the same spirit as Delaunay's variations on sport - is a cubist expression of movement; the typography is also extremely inventive and modernist. Even though we could not find out who the Oxford Blag's were, this is a great and very rare poster.
