MARCAL ARTKAUD BLUE STAR LINE.
351/2x231/2 inches. Ed. Alepee, Paris.
Condition B+: tape stain in upper left corner; creases in image.
A seldom seen poster, very much in the style of A. M. Cassandre, for a shipping company that left few posters behind for posterity. The Blue Star Line was incorporated in 1911 by a Liverpool family who were early progenitors of refrigerated ships for transporting meats to Europe from South America. After the First World War the company also began luxury passenger service. By 1920 all of the company's ships were being named "star". There was the Albion Star, Arandora Star, Avila Star and Almeda Star, to name a few. The Blue Star logo, a blue star within a white circle surrounded by red, appeared on the funnels of each ship.
