MARCEL ESCOFFIER.
"La Vitrine du bijoutier." Costume design for an unknown production, likely at a Paris Music Hall. Mixed media, including gouache, watercolor, metallic ink, graphite, and glitter collaged onto thick paper. 470x291 mm; 18 1/2x11 1/2 inches, on 19 1/2x12 3/4-inch sheet. Signed "Escoffier," dated [19]34 at lower left, and titled in the artist's hand at upper left. Some wear and small tears to edges of sheet.

Escoffier studied decorative arts before designing costumes for more than forty films and various theater productions and operas in Paris. Aptly titled "The Jeweler's Window," this shimmering design captures the glitz and glamour characteristic of the extravagant revues staged in Parisian music halls during the 1920s and 30s.
