MARCELLO DUDOVICH (1878-1962) CORSO. Bound volume. 1913. Albert Langen, Munich. Condition A: bound in cloth boards with illustrated cover. At the age of 19, Dudovich began working at the famous Ricordi Studio, where he had the great fortune to be taught by Italy's premiere graphic artists, Adolfo Hohenstein and Leopoldo Metlicovitz. He quickly became famous in his own right, with his career lasting until after the Second World War and representing a prestigious roster of clients including La Rinascente (the Italian Department store), Carpano Vermouth, and Fiat. In addition to his poster designs he was also a prolific magazine illustrator, working for numerous periodicals in both Italy and in Germany. From 1911-1914 Dudovich was the illustrator of society life in Simplicissimus. This rare album, Corso, the only one he appears to have designed, was published by Albert Langer (the founder of Simplicissimus) and consists of 42 photo-lithographs in the exact manner of his drawings for the magazine: elegance and frivolity in famous resorts like Venice and Ostende, aristocratic images from horse races and parties and others all designed with a witty, ironic humor.
