MARCELLO NIZZOLI (1887-1960) CAMPARI. 1926. 39 7/8x27 3/4 inches. Star, Milan. Condition A: minor tears and creases in margins. Nizzoli, who was an architect by training and considered one of the first Italian industrial designers (working for Olivetti), began his advertising career with the Maga agency in 1924. He was a bold artist with a strong sense of composition. Campari, a company with a long tradition of commissioning great artists, employed Nizzoli to design two posters. They are both neo-cubist still lives, with the bottle represented in majesty. One image (see Swann Modernist Poster Auction #2039, lot 119) bears Fernand Leger's influence. This one (designed the following year), with a diving perspective of the table, is more daring and innovative. Italian version.
