MARCO DENTE (after Rosso Fiorentino)
Allegory of Death and Fame: The Skeletons.

Engraving, circa 1518-25. 285x431 mm; 11 1/4x17 1/8 inches, thread margins. Second state (of 3), with the address of Salamanca lower right. Crossbow in a circle surmounted by a lily watermark (cf. Briquet 761, which dates to around 1533). A superb, dark and richly-inked impression of this large, scarce engraving with strong contrasts and little to no sign of wear.

Based on a drawing by Rosso Fiorentino (1495-1540) from 1517 now in the Uffizi, Florence. Bartsch 425.
