Lithograph on wove paper, 1953. 406x356 mm; 16x14 inches, full margins. Signed, titled, dated and numbered 1/20 in pencil, lower margin. A very good, dark impression of this scarce print.
This print is alternately titled Reina del Blues and was printed during Burroughs's time at the Taller de Gráfica Popular in Mexico. This lithograph is based on Carl Van Vechten's 1936 photogravure portrait of Bessie Smith. We have not found another impression of this print at auction in the past 20 years.
