Additional Details

Rather than the standard black ink key block, Patterson would instead use a light color or no key block at all, eliminating the harsh outlines commonly associated with woodcut printmaking, allowing for a more harmonious and painterly blend of color. Patterson didn't allow the wood block to confine her compositions and would often break the border or create immersive compositions as seen here, accentuated by her decision to trim most of her prints to image size rather than leave a margin.
