Mario Montez (born René Rivera) was a drag performer who achieved underground fame in films by Jack Smith and Andy Warhol in the mid-1960s. Includes: Flier for "An Evening with Mario Montez Movies" at the Astor Place Playhouse featuring excerpts from films by Smith, Warhol and Vehr. [New York], 12 June [1965] "Repeated at Last: Mario Montez Movies," a similar screening at City Hall Cinema; slightly chipped at edges. [New York], 25 June [1965] "Andy Warhol Presents a Benefit for Ronald Tavel / Mario Montez." Illustrated flier, mailing folds, 1/4-inch hole in margin, with lipstick imprint in image; address panel on verso signed by Montez as return address.
