From the photographer; to a private collector in 1994.
An edition of 100 copies was planned, this particular copy is unique since it includes the picture of Eric Dolphy. Apparently, fewer than 10 portfolios of the original edition were actually produced.

Jim Marshall was a cult figure who is best-known for his iconic pictures of jazz and rock musicians from the 1960s-1970s, which appeared on hundreds of album covers. The portfolio offered here represents a lesser-known body of work but one reflecting Marshall's acute photographic talent. The prints are beautifully-produced and the selection of artists first-rate.
