MARTIN LEWIS
Glow of the City.

Drypoint printed in dark brownish black on cream laid paper, 1929. 285x361 mm; 11 1/4x14 1/4 inches, full margins. Edition of 110. Signed and inscribed "imp" in pencil, lower right. A brilliant, dark, richly-inked and luminous impression of this important etching.

The lighted skyscraper in the center background, also seen in Lewis' Manhattan Lights, 1931, is the Chanin Building, designed in the Art Deco style and completed in 1929. The building is located at 122 East 42nd Street, at the corner of Lexington Avenue and across the street from the better-known Chrysler Building. McCarron 77.
