MARTIN LEWIS
Winter on White Street.

Drypoint and sand ground on cream wove paper, 1934. 276x175 mm; 10 7/8x6 7/8 inches, full margins. Third state (of 3). Edition of approximately 41. Signed in pencil, lower right. Ex-collection Lucille Lewis, the artist's widow, with the ink stamp verso; Patricia Lewis, the artist's daughter-in-law, with the ink stamp verso; and Kennedy Galleries, Inc., New York, with the label. A brilliant, richly-inked impression.

According to McCarron, "In 1972, Kennedy Galleries began preparations for a major two-part retrospective exhibition of Lewis's work. At the request of the Lewis family, the gallery took inventory of works located in Lucile Lewis's apartment and at Kennedy Galleries, as well as those in the possession of Patricia Lewis in Canada. Two rubber stamps, 'Collection--Lucille Lewis' and 'Collection Patricia Lewis,' were used by Kennedy Galleries in order to keep track of the source of Lewis's works." McCarron 110.
