MARTIN PEIKERT (1901-1975) STRANDBAD INTERLAKEN. 1930.
49 1/2x34 1/2 inches, 126x88 cm. Otto Schlaefli A.G., Interlaken.
Condition B+: extensive overpainting in top and upper side margins; repaired tears and creases in margins and image; minor restored losses in lower margin.
For this, Peikert's first travel poster, he created an image divided into three planes; "the first character, facilities in the second plane and in the third the landscape. His originality manifests itself here in several ways. His wife in the foreground is depicted in a monumental way, to the point where it exceeds the scope of the poster. Her swimsuit contrasted against the darker background of the sky and landscape. She is preparing to throw a large red ball which forms a focal point of the poster. It is drawn diagonally which accentuates the dynamism of the composition. Youth, beauty and the energy of the woman filled with life creates the atmosphere of the foreground of all his posters. Martin Peikert clearly separates the different planes. The lines of his characters contrasting with those of the buildings of the pool and water dominated by horizontal and vertical whose presence is strengthened by the lines of the text which he has grouped at the bottom of the poster" (Peikert p. 47). Peikert p. 46.
