La Fiesta de Los Angeles was originally held in 1894 and continued every year through 1931. For this 4th festival, Curran "shows a familiarity with current poster trends. Using the Fiesta's official colors of green, red and orange [signifying olives, wine and oranges, the primary crops of Los Angeles County, she] incorporates a young woman into her stylized design of California poppies . . . the city, known for its abundant flowers, advertised itself as a place where beautiful homes were surrounded by carefully tended gardens filled with roses, calla lilies, geraniums, heliotrope, jasmine and tuberose, a city where the scent of orange blossoms filled the air with delicious perfumes" (Southern California 2).
