He filled sketch books with drawings and watercolors of his observations of people, both during his military service and during his travels in the subways and buses of New York. He attended the Art Students League in New York in the 1930s, participated in the WPA, and earned a BA from New York University in 1939, and an MA from Temple University, Philadelphia in 1961. Warren exhibited at the National Academy of Design, the American Watercolor Society, and the National Arts Club; much of his work is now in the Richard Allen Museum in Philadelphia.
