MASTER I. F. FLORENTINE
The Wedding of Vertumnus and Pomona.

Engraving, 1542. 250x392 mm; 9 1/2x15 1/4 inches. Anchor (?) in a circle watermark. Trimmed on or just inside the plate mark. A very good impression.

This scarce engraving, possibly after a design by the Florentine Mannerist artist Baccio Bandinelli (1493-1560), recalls engravings by Italian artists who worked on the design of François I's Palace of Fontainebleau, with stylistic similarities to Vertumnus's throne and the altar before him. Bartsch 502.
