with--A passport-sized portrait of Eva Gauthier from the same sitting, mounted to a small card. Also includes an envelope mailed by Mather to Barrett in 1924.


From the estate of Gertrude Barrett. Barrett was a Los Angeles based musician and close friend of Mather.


This is the only known print of this image, however The Center for Creative Photograph, Tucson has an 10x8 inch palladium print of Gauthier from the same sitting (76:005:030).


Eva Gauthier was a Canadian-born classical singer, associated with George Gershwin, Ravel, Debussy, Ned Rorem and others. She played three Gershwin songs as well as songs by Jerome Kern and other "jazz" composers at a historic 1923 recital at Aeolian Hall in New York. She was accompanied by George Gershwin on piano.
