MAURICE LAURO (1878-?)

AUTOMOTO. Circa 1930.

46½x31 inches, 118x78¾ cm. Les Successeurs de Hachard & Cie., [Paris].
Condition B+: minor creases, abrasions and restoration in margins and along vertical and horizontal folds; minor creases and flaking at edges. Mounted directly to linen.

Lauro was predominantly a magazine illustrator who specialized in fashion. This poster for a bicycle company highlights both the fashion of the fit young pair of riders, and the trendy sport they are about to play, as they hold their tennis rackets high. No doubt, their level of comfort and confidence is an indication of how these bicycles are easily handled with just one hand on the handlebars. L'Affiche Tennis 71, Le Tennis A l'Affiche np, Art Deco p. 189.
