Additional Details

Sundance Childrens Theater was a collaborative effort between Robert Redford, actor and founder of the Sundance Institute, Arthur Yorinks, Caldecott Medal winning author and playwright, and Maurice Sendak. The goal was to create a national repertory theater for children, hosting and creating sophisticated plays, operas and musical comedies targeted to a young audience. Ultimately, negotiations fell through and the theater disbanded, leading to Sendak and Yorinks' independent theater venture called the Night Kitchen named after his 1970 book In the Night Kitchen.
