Additional Details

The VAEVO (Association for the Promotion of the Aesthetic Element in Secondary Education) was a Dutch foundation established in 1908 that aimed to foster the cultural education of young students. VAEVO worked frequently with Escher and commissioned reprints of multiple of his works including Contrast (Order and Chaos), The Second Day of the Creation (The Division of the Waters), and Three Worlds in editions of up to 700. These prints were then distributed en masse to students at secondary schools, with the mission of making art easily accessible to young students.
