Like Waterfall, this work captures an impossible shape, in this instance the view of a cube from below. It has been suggested that Escher was influenced by Giovanni B. Piranesi's Carceri d'Invenzione series of etchings of fantastic, otherwordly prison designs from the mid-1700s. Bool 426.
