According to Hofmaier, very few examples of this work--illustrating fairy tales by the German Romantic author Clemens Bretano (1778-1842)--are known. Presumably some were lost and destroyed in the war, Hofmaier further believes that Beckmann was unhappy with the publication in general and blocked its release.
