Collection of approximately 25 watercolors and ink drawings, circa 1920-25. Most approximately 370x260 mm; 14 5/8x10 1/4 inches. Most signed in ink or pencil, lower margin. Includes mainly costume studies and advertising designs, as well as cover designs for The New Yorker.
Rée (1889-1953) was a Danish-born costume designer. He lived in New York and Los Angeles from the 1920s to the early 1950s. Rée designed 4 covers for The New Yorker which were published in 1925, all display his classic Art Deco-inspired style as do the current works. In 1931, he won an Academy Award for Best Art Direction for the film Cimarron.
