Born in Russia, Weber emigrated to the United States in 1891 and settled in Brooklyn. After studying with Arthur Wesley Dow at the Pratt Institute, he spent time in Paris working at the Académie Julian from 1905-6, with Matisse and Laurens. By the end of the decade, he had entered the circle of Apollinaire and Picasso, and became an early practitioner of Cubism.
