first edition. Although officially part of Belcher's 1852-54 expedition, the Resolute commanded by Henry Kellett and the Intrepid commanded by Francis Leopold McClintock undertook a separate exploration of Melville Island. The author of this journal served as the master aboard the Resolute. After extensive sledge journeys across the Island, the ship became icebound during the expedition's second winter and the ship abandoned. It later drifted, was recovered by an American whaler and returned to Queen Victoria as a gift. Arctic Bibliography 10603; Sabin 43183; TPL 3452; Hill 1124.
