Frontispiece for a McCall's 1927 feature on a woman's adventure during the Alaskan Gold Rush. Mead Schaeffer was Norman Rockwell's contemporary and Vermont neighbor. The two travelled West together several times, incorporating subjects drawn from their adventures outside of New England.
