MEL RAMOS
Sundial.

Color screenprint on cream wove paper, 1956. 560x303 mm; 22¼x12 inches, wide margins. Signed, titled and numbered 14/15 in pencil, lower margin. Printed and published by the artist, Sacramento. A very good impression of this extremely scarce, early print with strong colors.

This is the first limited edition print made by Ramos (1935-2018). According to a statement from the artist's studio in 2018, this is among a group of early color screenprints that were created at the California State Fair in 1956 as part of a demonstration on printmaking. The project was a collaboration between Ramos and his friend, fellow artist Wayne Thiebaud (1920-2021), whose first forays into printmaking also began with these early color screenprints. Hilger 1.
