The engraver Jan van Doetecum replicating the map his father Baptista engraved for Petrus Plancius in 1590 (lot 186). With very little cartographical changes, the twin hemispheres are again set within a strapwork border, but here treated with the additions of two celestial hemispheres and four insets within the corner spandrels: Iceland, Japan, St. Helena and Ceylon.
