Additional Details

Beautiful dark impression of this map which was engraved by Jan van Doetecum. The map closely follows the Plancius world maps of 1590 and 1594, incorporating elements from both. Of note are the insets, including a mapping of Japan in the upper right corner, which while inexact, is more advanced than what appears on the general map. Shirley 254; Walter 13.
