At the invitation of MoMA, Michael Wesely set up cameras at four locations to document the museum's three year construction and renovation project. The cameras' shutters remained open for the entire period, resulting in the longest photograph exposures on record. Buildings that were demolished or constructed often appear ghostlike, evoking simultaineously a vanishing and emerging presence. When the museum reopened in October 2004, the four large scale photographs produced by Wesely were exhibited as "Michael Wesely: Open Shutter at the Museum of Modern Art," and a monograph with that title was published. The photograph on offer is taken from the vantage point of The University Club.
